The CeRBA project aims to analyze and develop the main economic sectors of Sicily, Calabria, and the South based on a methodological approach focused on detailed financial data. The goal is to provide support tools for the assessment of business health and management.
Data source: AIDA Database
The financial analysis of the CeRBA Project is based on data provided by AIDA, a database of Bureau Van Dijk that allows access to detailed economic and financial information on all Italian joint-stock companies. The research center can consult financial statements in full, integrating the analysis with qualitative information (social, environmental) available in the supplementary notes.
The AIDA database offers personal and financial information on approximately 1 million companies, updated to the latest available year. Thanks to the recent renewal of the CRUI-BVD 2025-2027 contract, UniMe has acquired the AIDA Scanned Report module, which allows the downloading of optical financial statements in PDF format. This new tool authorizes obtaining the original financial statements published by companies, including the explanatory notes and management report, where available. Thanks to its historical series, it is possible to access company financial statements for up to 10 years. In addition, it provides details on employees declared by companies, allowing an in-depth analysis of the employment structure. The platform also permits the consultation of information on shareholder and corporate participation, offering a clear view of ownership dynamics. In addition, is it possible to obtain details on company representatives and the composition of the Board of Directors, essential information for governance analysis. With the possibility of performing advanced searches through national (ATECO) and international classifications (NACE, US SIC, UK SIC), AIDA allows a comparative analysis on a global scale.
The identification of the key sectors of the Sicilian, Calabrian and Southern economies is based on the observation of the company accounts presented to the business register. The reports generated provide a systematic account of the financial performance of individual sectors or specific economic activities within a given territory.
The project aims to assess the financial and economic strength of small and medium-sized enterprises based on key performance indicators. The data analyzed also allows for benchmarking between companies in different sectors, production areas, or geographical areas, highlighting their strengths and weaknesses.
Through advanced financial analysis, the project helps companies adapt to dominant corporate law regimes. Reports include comparisons with industry warning indices, helping to improve transparency and corporate governance.
